· 387 words · about 2 minutes

When those cold crisp winter days roll in it feels so good to get all wrapped up in your favourite coat and explore the great outdoors. To pair with these days of fun in nature, we have a craft that involves just that!

It is the perfect time of year to use the natural and sustainable resources around us whether it be leaves, rocks, or, in the case, twigs. These twig ornaments have a rustic charm that will fit sweetly into any home while offering you and your family the chance to create whatever your heart desires in easy and fun ways. Why not make a day of it and visit one of the many Leicestershire country parks, or whichever parks are in your area, and then return home create your own holiday goodies.

To make your own twig ornaments, you will need:

  • Twigs from outside
  • Craft glue
  • Different coloured threads – we recommend embroidery threads as they are thicker, but any type is fine
  • String, twine, or ribbon

How to:

  • Go outside with friends or family (or both) and start collecting twigs from the ground, bushes, or trees. They can be long or short just make sure they are on the thinner side, so they are easy to snap or cut.
  • Decide what shapes you want to make – on the picture there are stars, sparkles and tree shapes that can be made very easily but use your imagination and create what you like!
  • Snap or cut you twigs into the lengths needs and use the craft glue to attach them into your chosen shapes, leaving to dry completely.
  • Once dry, wrap coloured threads around your twigs in the patterns you like best and use glue to secure the threads into place.
  • Create a loop with your string, twine, or ribbon and glue onto the top of your ornaments.

Not only do these delights look incredible, but they are also amazing for teaching about the importance of reusing materials to remain kinder to our environment. Much like this craft, our AAaH kits are made with sustainable sourced and high-quality materials that can be used again and again by yourself or together with your loved ones.
